Last week we were interviewed by Catherine Warczak of Vogue.com, offering our thoughts on blogging, editorial control and our favourite local labels. As well as the Sargasso Sea interview feature, Vogue featured one of our earliest shoots, The Landing, in an online fashion gallery (here).

| Emily McGuire the label. |
First launched in LA back in 2009, RAW is an independent arts organisation that champions the new and the next. Tonight, the Australian chapter of the event is playing host to RAW Brisbane: Solstice, a celebration of artists in the practice areas of film, music, fashion design, hair, makeup and visual art. We'll be bringing our business cards/collaboration ideas along to the event, where we hope to mingle with all the participants, including local favourites Emily McGuire the label and illustrator Katie Nelson. The night starts off at Oh Hello (doors open 8pm), so come along for a jam jar or three.

SOOT: COMING SOON
Last week we visited designer Edwina Sinclair in her studio and creative space, home to her label SOOT. The Fine Arts (fashion) student/design director is making use of the mid-semester break to begin working with a new PR agent and sampling her next collection. If you can't wait a few more days for our full interview feature, visit Edwina at the SOOT concept store on James Street (extra incentive: she's currently having a winter sale).

MOLTEN RELIC
Jessy Cameron is a storyteller, an intrinsically creative soul with a spark in her eyes. Where other dreamers have set out to wander the globe with no fixed address or regular pay packet, Jessy channelled her passion into an online shopping destination: Molten Store. The imagery for the newly launched in-house brand, Molten Relic, introduces the latest Molten beauty, beach-side model muse Olivia. 20 June 2012
BEAT ON THE BRAT
On Sunday I caught up with Benjamin and Fran for breakfast and finally got around to shooting a set of images for a story idea I've been drafting. Three outfit changes, mild public exposure and a coconut later, we finished up with a series that makes me want to surf the break with Patrick Swayze.

GRAZ et Optiko
| Graz with Sam from Felix and Slink |
Graz Mulcahy is just one man, but so far he's been a DJ, a fashion festival director and obviously, an eyewear designer. Brisbane PR company Felix and Slink recently hosted the labels launch at Optiko, in Fortitude Valley's James Street. With both optical and sunglass styles on show, the label showed its versatility and its 'tude. After a quick handshake and smile, Graz agreed to some questions and answered in his distinctive fashion.

GERLAN MARCEL
With the launch of the Gerlan Jeans SS 2012 range Mall Witch, Gerlan Marcel picks up where R.L. Stine left off, subverting the constructs of horror fiction and mall culture. Since graduating from Central St. Martins, the Brooklyn based graphic artist, designer and illustrator honed her love of textiles in partnerships with industry icons such as Patricia Field, Jeremy Scott, Hussein Chalayan and Calvin Klein.

PEDESTRIAN BLOGSTER AWARDS DIARY

After a hastily booked plane flight, an unfortunate choice in hotel accommodation and a mid-distance sprint down George Street, THE SS picked up the fashion category accolade at the Pedestrian Blogster Awards. Aside from being bestowed with a new Intel Ultrabook and a mentorship with Vogue Australia, a firm highlight was catching up with the sea of inspiring attendees who swarmed the event at the Museum of Contemporary Art.

DRAWN APART
As much as I appreciate the multi-sensory appeal of video installations, I was recently introduced to a project that simulates filmic fluidity in an entirely different medium. Drawn Apart is housed at Paper Plane Gallery in Rozelle, a four-person drawing project that splices traditionalism and online collaboration, culminating in a kinetic artist narrative.

As the growth of online retail redefines fashion consumption and print magazines commission digital collaborations with style bloggers, it's clear that Australian blogger/e-commerce executive Sara Donaldson has a passion for both strategy and stylistics. Ahead of her weekend visit to Brisbane to launch a series of style workshops, we spoke to Sara about her role in FELLT, the challenge of international seasonal differences and her thoughts on the co-existence of print and online.
ARCHIVE: THE FALLS

Hannah recently developed a roll of film from her Nikon EM, with some of shots from our day of shooting at the falls during summer. The colonialist inspired dresses we used are c/o the talented QUT Fine Arts (fashion) graduate Kirsty Robyn.

WET AND WENDY
Last month Chloe, Kaity and I dropped by the BAM Brands Surry Hills showroom for a lesson in pragmatism. While my inner Huckleberry Finn lamented the absence of a magnetic compass or pocket knife, we were introduced to a practical fashion range designed to change your wet weather procedures.

RES DENIM
An early Wednesday morning, an undecided location and a head full of assessment criteria isn't usually how I like to attend photo shoots. Add to that some temperamental weather (I went from sweating to freezing and back in the 15 minutes I was at the shoot), going to the wrong rooftop parking garage and an impending deadline waiting for me at my internship. Strangely, or maybe in spite of the swirling vortex of stress, arriving at the rooftop of the McWhirters Carpark and seeing a model, legs splayed atop a concrete wall bathed in full sunlight with the city skyscrapers behind her erased the rest of the world.

SARAH BIRCHLEY
With a tertiary background in literature/music and a six year employment history at local fashion institution Boxvintage, it's obvious that stylist Sarah Birchley has a fine appreciation for classicism. THE SS caught up with the Brisbane-based fashion lover in the wake of her latest styling collaboration showcased at Substation 4.
