Walk by me: SHOE PORN (SFW)

Type that into Google and the results only show two things. ACTUAL SHOE PORN (so shield your eyes) and a literal blogroll with fashionistas exclaiming excitedly over their new Nikolas Kirkwoods, Jeffery Campbells and B-Store’s. Personally, this scares me a little – the use of sexual language in relation to fashion has permeated every corner of the industry so much so, that the word PORN is redefined by a search engine from sexual acts to bloggers awkwardly leaning in their Lita’s. 

Pornography itself has ancient roots (tehe!) but the inclusion of terms such as “shoe porn” and “fash-gasm” into our vernacular are thought to have been introduced around the time of Sex and the City *.

Remember that episode where Carrie buys the furry shoes supposedly to turn Burger on? Shoes have a clear and obvious purpose – to shield our feet from stones and syringes that are scattered in our path – but it's the connotations they have that hold our attention and admiration. Carrie didn't buy those shoes to save her feet from the hot bitumen, she bought them to show her sexual availability.

Now, shoes fetishists may not go for the fluffy toed mules, but they will go for the sky-high, black patent leather platforms or the Jeffery Campbell Nightwalks (in the GIF above) – shoes so extreme, the real night-walkers wouldn't even go there. For some reason, though, fashionistas will. Clear stileto heels, and the aforementioned black patent – or worse, red – are all fair game when teamed with slouchy knits, skinny jeans and a Birkin bag. 

With the much heralded return to lady-like dressing, where will this leave the fashionistas who walk on the wild side? Court shoes and kitten heels aren't for them, but will they secede and give into the 4cm flatforms? Or will they stick to their guns and champion the footwear of those who get under others.
